📸 Instawalk at the Tidal Turbine
Your Lens, Your Story
Do you love photography or are you a content creator with an eye for technology, nature, or sustainable energy? Join the Instawalk on June 4 from 11:00 to 12:00 at the tidal turbine by Water2Energy in Vlissingen. Designer Reinier Rijke will give you a unique look at this innovative installation between the sea and the canal. Feel free to explore and capture the surroundings before or after the tour.
Working Together for Sustainable Energy from the Sea
The Community of Practice North Sea, in collaboration with the Delta Climate Center, is organizing a full day focused on innovative solutions for sustainable energy in the coastal region. As part of the program, Offshore For Sure hosts this Instawalk.
Four themes to inspire your photography
🌿 Ecology – Focus your lens on coastal life and protection: like the barriers that keep seals and porpoises out, the tides or the birds living around the turbine.
⚙️ Innovation & Technology – Capture the turbine or its components up close, and showcase the smart engineering that makes renewable energy possible.
⚡ Energy – Visualize the power of the tides and how the surrounding environment benefits from this clean energy source.
👷 The Human Factor – Photograph people at work - like Reinier - in their work gear as a symbol of the knowledge and dedication behind the technology. Show how human expertise tailors innovation to meet our needs in the offshore energy transition.
During and after the Instawalk, we encourage you to share your photos and videos on Instagram or other social media platforms using these hashtags:

Safe for Seals and Fish
The turbine is fish-friendly. Its blades are spaced far apart and rotate slowly, allowing fish to swim through. Safety grilles on both sides prevent seals or porpoises from entering.

How clean energy is made
Every day, large volumes of water flow in and out of the Zeeland Delta due to the tides. Reinier Rijke has designed a turbine that generates power from the difference in water levels between the Western Scheldt and the canal through Walcheren.
Benefits
🌊 Smart use of tidal currents
⚙️ Flowing water drives the rotor blades
🔋 Provides reliable, predictable green power
🌱 Operates day and night

"The general public is not yet familiar with the power and predictability of energy from water, of tidal energy. I want to prove and showcase both its strength and reliability." R.Rijke
Exposure for you – and for us.

Why Instawalks?
Offshore projects often remain literally beneath the surface or out of sight. With Instawalks, we bring people closer – both physically and through visual storytelling. It’s how we showcase our projects, share knowledge, and build support for sustainable initiatives at sea or in the water.
🎯 Purpose: Raise awareness & make projects visible – aligning with Offshore For Sure goals: public engagement, education, and sustainability.
Offshore For Sure
Water2Energy is one of fifteen Dutch and Flemish partners collaborating in the Offshore For Sure project. Together, they are testing five promising energy solutions and working toward a future-proof energy system for the North Sea.
