FOTON
Sunlight as a power source for green chemicals and fuels
Progress Update
19-12-2025
During the first project period, the FOTON project has made significant progress in the development of sustainable technologies for the production of green hydrogen and methanol using sunlight. In recent months, important steps have been taken in the areas of materials development and system integration.
Progress has been achieved in the development of materials and systems for green hydrogen and methanol production. New catalysts and photoelectrodes have been developed and tested. The construction of a transparent flow reactor and the selection of an artificial light source for 24/7 production are well underway. In addition, the project partners are working closely together on the integration of sensors and on the economic and sustainability analyses of the systems.
Within the project, a user and advisory committee has been established, currently comprising eleven participating companies. The project is being actively promoted through symposia, conferences, and social media. During the first project period, the Nanotechnology Crossing Borders event and the first meeting of the user and advisory committee were organized. Four newsletters have been published, and four scientific articles have been released.
The FOTON project remains committed to innovation and knowledge sharing in the field of sustainable energy, with the active involvement of education, industry, and the public sector.
