Offshore renewable energy often develops far from public view. Beyond the Surface offered a glimpse into this world, using photography to capture the people, places and innovations driving progress in the sector.
Featuring work connected to Dutch offshore renewable energy, including the Offshore For Sure project the exhibition invited visitors to see offshore innovation from a different perspective. The images highlighted the expertise, collaboration and dedication behind the technologies contributing to the energy transition.
By bringing these stories into a public space, the exhibition helped make developments at sea more accessible to people beyond the offshore industry.
Beyond the Surface at The Hague City Hall!
From 15 to 28 September 2026, the Atrium of The Hague City Hall hosted Beyond the Surface, a photographic exhibition showcasing the people, places and innovations shaping the future of Dutch offshore renewable energy.
What happens when we look beyond the technology?
Through striking photography, Beyond the Surface invited visitors to discover the stories behind offshore renewable energy. The exhibition brought the sector into the heart of The Hague, highlighting not only the innovations taking shape at sea, but also the people and processes turning ideas into action across the North Sea.
The exhibition also featured a collection from Ocean Energy Europe (OEE), showcasing European ocean energy developments and complementing the Dutch perspective with a broader view of the innovations shaping the sector.
Beyond the Surface formed part of the Hague city’s campaign in the run-up to ICOE OEE 2026, bringing the people, technologies and stories behind offshore renewable energy closer to the public.
The next chapter of Beyond the Surface
On 9 October 2026, Beyond the Surface began its next chapter with a second exhibition launch at the Provincie zuid-Holland.
The launch marked another step in the exhibition’s journey, creating fresh opportunities for visitors to discover the people, places and innovations shaping the sector. Through photography, the exhibition offers a closer look at the work taking place across the North Sea and the people turning new ideas into action.
The exhibition will continue bringing these stories to the public, inspiring curiosity and sparking conversations about the future of offshore renewable energy.

Beyond the Surface is still on display at the Provincie zuid-Holland, where the photographs will remain until 15 January 2027.
