HZ's We Explore Together' (WET) Technology Week - students take on real-world offshore renewable energy challenges

For the fifth year in a row, HZ Nexus hosted the 'We Explore Together' (WET) Technology Week from the 3 to 7 November, with more than 300 students from HZ, University College Roosevelt and Scalda.

Earlier this month, Offshore For Sure (O4S) had the pleasure of contributing to the HZ We Explore Together (WET) Week, an annual programme where students tackle real-world challenges in water, energy, food, and sustainability.

Throughout the week, teams of students from Scalda, HZ, and UCR, supervised by coaches, worked on real-life challenges presented by clients, including Dutch Wave Power (DWP) and Water2Energy (W2E), partners of the Offshore For Sure project.

DWP 1

As part of the programme, Offshore For Sure and its partners — Dutch Wave Power, Water2Energy, World Class Maintenance, and Ghent University — introduced students to the project’s mission and its goal of supporting the transition to clean and sustainable energy at sea through the innovative offshore energy technologies being developed.

Congratulations to Team 3 for their outstanding work on the Dutch Wave Power case:
Franklin Hoogstrate, Ivo Ebben, Nina Kozonova, Szymon Kubicki, Xander Wiersma and Martijn van Brederode.

DWP 3

The week concluded on Friday 7 November at HZ University of Applied Sciences and the Joint Research Center Zeeland in Middelburg with a major event. The student teams presented their finale reports and solutions to clients, lecturers, and researchers. It was impressive to see how much they achieved in just a few days — their creative ideas and fresh perspectives were inspiring.

Momentum for ocean energy on Ocean Energy Europe 2025

November 2025 – Ocean Energy Europe (OEE) 2025 reaffirmed why it The annual meeting for the ocean energy sector. More than annual meeting is for the ocean energy sector. More than 300 participants from almost 40 countries met in Brussels for two full days full of presentations, debates and networking opportunities. The event brought together the entire spectrum of the sector – from innovative start-ups to major project developers, from policymakers to financiers – all aimed at turning ocean energy into a strong pillar of the European clean energy system.

ICOE & OEE 2026 head to The Hague. Site visits will showcase O4S offshore innovations in action.

Brussels 5 November 2025, following the closing of Ocean Energy Europe 2025 Conference & Exhibition (OEE2025), The International Energy Agency’s Ocean Energy Systems (IEA-OES) and Ocean Energy Europe together with the Dutch Energy from Water Association (EWA) announced they will join forces to host ICOE-OEE 2026, in The Hague, The Netherlands on 5 – 7 October 2026.

On the 20th of October, the SWiM project partners came together to discuss just that. With key input from Offshore For Sure partners, the workshop focused on the practical and policy challenges of combining renewables offshore — from permitting to tender criteria and the Marine Spatial Plan.
