Innovate the Future: Technasium Challenge 2025 at RDM Campus

In early 2025, 500 students from ten Technasium schools took on the challenge of harnessing wave energy in a unique competition organized by the Maritime Museum Rotterdam, with Dutch Wave Power as their client. The project kicked off at the museum, where students were introduced to the potential of ocean waves as a reliable source of renewable energy, especially when the sun isn’t shining or the wind isn’t blowing.

Over eight weeks, teams dove into research and designed their innovative solutions to capture energy from waves. The best ten teams showcased their ideas during the grand finale that took place on April 9th at the RDM Innovation Dock in Rotterdam. In a dynamic carousel program with pitches, tours, and presentations, one winning team took home the Verolme Award and the title of wave energy pioneers of the future!

Lina Laar of Bluespring was there and captured the energy of the day in a short video. It features an introduction from Helma Bloom of the Maritime Museum, reflections from Sten Swanenberg of Dutch Wave Power on the success of the event, and enthusiastic reactions from the winning students as they explain their innovative approach and share what made the challenge so rewarding.
