Superellipse explores new material concepts and manufacturing strategies with B-SMARTT!
Superellipse brings a new perspective to the B-SMARTT! ecosystem, connecting technological possibilities with application-driven innovation. Together with the consortium, new material concepts and advanced manufacturing strategies are being explored, tested and developed towards practical implementation.
Life cycle assessments (LCA) compare the environmental performance of these innovations with conventional techniques, keeping impact a key criterion in every development decision.
Orineo combines sustainable thermoset materials with advanced manufacturing within B-SMARTT!
With a strong connection to sustainable materials and circular innovation, Orineo fits naturally within B-SMARTT!'s ambition to rethink how materials are sourced, processed and transformed into valuable products.
Within the project, Orineo combines its sustainable materials for thermosetting with the consortium's advanced manufacturing and validation expertise. This creates new opportunities to bring sustainable thermoset materials to concrete applications.
DenimX develops circular textile composites with B-SMARTT!
DenimX is a pioneer in the circular economy, taking a holistic approach from material innovation to market realisation. Within B-SMARTT!, DenimX is developing circular textile composites that are both high-performance and sustainable.
There is currently no integrated approach that combines recycled textile streams, bio-based polymers and advanced manufacturing techniques such as 3D knitting, additive manufacturing and thermoforming. Together with the consortium, DenimX is identifying the optimal combination of materials, manufacturing techniques and validation needed for scalable, reproducible applications. Life cycle assessments (LCA) and end-of-life scenarios provide the validated data needed for market adoption and industrial scaling.
Matthijs De Block develops biobased, biofunctionalised interior objects with B-SMARTT!
Matthijs De Block has joined the B-SMARTT! ecosystem to develop biofunctionalised interior objects from biobased materials. The key challenge is to preserve the material's postbiotic properties throughout processing and manufacturing.
Through B-SMARTT!, he gains access to the expertise and infrastructure of the Flemish and Dutch partners in sustainable materials development, advanced manufacturing and validation. Together, we explore how innovative materials and technologies can be translated into new products with real market potential.
BIO INX advances high-resolution biofabrication within B-SMARTT!
BIO INX, a Ghent-based spin-off of Ghent University and VUB, develops biobased inks and materials for 3D (bio)printing. As one of the first companies in the B-SMARTT! ecosystem, BIO INX collaborates with the consortium on high-resolution biofabrication.
The platform combines materials expertise, additive manufacturing and validation, helping new inks and printing applications progress faster towards market-ready solutions. BIO INX shows how B-SMARTT! enables SMEs to accelerate sustainable innovation without having to build all the required expertise and infrastructure in-house.
