EWA Members’ Meeting: Offshore For Sure Partners in the Spotlight
EWA's General Assembly
Offshore For Sure (O4S) | 28/07/2025

The Energy from Water Association (EWA) recently held its annual members’ meeting at Teijin Aramid’s state-of-the-art R&D centre in Arnhem. The event brought together leading players from the offshore renewable energy sector, including the core partners of the Offshore For Sure (O4S) project: Water2Energy, Dutch Wave Power, and Bluespring. The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to showcase the collective steps being taken toward a sustainable and innovative offshore energy sector.
Collaboration at Teijin Aramid
Event host Teijin Aramid, a global leader in high-performance aramid fibres, delivered a series of presentations followed by an exclusive tour of their laboratory, offering insight into how the fibres are manufactured and processed. Their technological expertise—vital for cables and mooring systems—holds great promise for future offshore applications. Teijin is actively exploring new opportunities for collaboration in supporting the offshore energy transition, including with Offshore For Sure partners Oceans of Energy and Dutch Wave Power.
Offshore For Sure: Technology and Impact
The O4S project featured prominently during the meeting. Water2Energy recently reinstalled its innovative tidal turbine at the lock gates in Vlissingen—this time equipped with an advanced blade-pitch system, delivering over 20% improved efficiency. Dutch Wave Power announced the start of construction on its offshore wave energy prototype at Rometal and Hillebrand; this will be extensively tested at the Offshore Test Site (OTS) in Scheveningen either later this year or early next year.
Bluespring and the Zeeland Environmental Federation (ZMF) are leveraging their hands-on knowledge and experience to draft a new whitepaper with policy recommendations. This document will combine shared lessons, market challenges, and strategic insights aimed at further developing offshore renewable energy in the Netherlands and Europe. Later this year, Bluespring and ZMF will reach out to EWA members for input.
Sector Highlights and Member Initiatives
Beyond O4S results, several other inspiring updates were shared:
- Symphony Wave Power started dry-testing its prototype and signed a pilot agreement to supply offshore power to OneDyas.
- Weco tested its “drop-and-pull” method this year at the North Sea testing grounds near Scheveningen.
- Slowmill and SeaQurrent achieved successes with new offshore tests.
- EQA Projects, Wave Hexapod, and Pols-Wermers are developing new prototypes and securing permits.
- Campus@Sea is building an international network of IECRE-accredited offshore test sites within the Offshore Proof project, supported by INTERREG NWE.
Policy Development and Government Dialogue
During the session, representatives from the Ministry of Climate & Green Growth (KGG) and RVO shared their vision:
- Broader criteria for funding schemes, with increasing attention to system integration, grid stability, and innovative storage solutions.
- Stimulating knowledge sharing through international platforms such as the IEA-OES Technology Collaboration Programme
Looking Ahead: Rapid Scale-Up and International Attention
2025 and 2026 promise to be pivotal years for the offshore renewable energy sector, highlighted by the ICOE-OEE 2026 conference in the Netherlands—made possible by EWA and the O4S partners. The sector is moving from pilot-scale tests to real-world demonstrations and system integration, drawing significant international interest.
